Inclusive and non-sexist language guide and training course for semFYC

In the current context, the promotion of gender equality and inclusion has become a cross-cutting priority. Organisations play a key role in building an inclusive environment, and one of the most affective ways to achieve gender mainstreaming is through the use of inclusive and non-sexist language.

Guide for an inclusive and non-sexist communication

One of the most useful and essential tools for the correct use of language is to have an inclusive language guide available for all staff, which is clear, concise and with real examples to facilitate the resolution of doubts for those who consult it. Also this tool also helps to create an inclusive environment where all people feel valued and respected, thus reinforcing an organisational culture based on diversity and respect.

In the design of this guide, it has been decided to go beyond the traditional conventions of inclusive and gender-neutral language by focusing not only on the use of inclusive terms and expressions in written texts and spoken discourse, but also on non-verbal, audio-visual and visual communication.

Training for all staff of the organization

To ensure that all semFYC staff are aware of and apply inclusive language in all their internal and external communications, a comprehensive training plan was designed to help consolidate the knowledge conveyed in the guide.

The training methodology combines, in a balanced way, theoretical and practical contents, where in each of the sections, examples and realistic activities were included in order to consolidate the knowledge that was being explained in the classroom. At all times, teamwork was encouraged to promote the exchange of ideas, experiences and solutions.

If you want to know some recommendations to eliminate sexism and androcentrism from language, we leave you one of our articles in LabGroc called Inclusive and non-sexist communication.
